The Yankees head to the 10th inning tied at 1-1 after yet another comeback. And who else to deliver a game tying, ninth inning single, then Bronson Sardinha, owner of a walkoff 9th inning two run homerun just two games ago.
Since I last left off, Darrell Rasner pitched three dominating innings, striking out two on two hits. Luis Vizcaino gave up a solo homerun after striking out his first two batters and Mike Myers and Jose Veras combined to throw an additional scoreless frame.
-Sardinha's hit came only after A-Rod's replacement, Chris Basak delivered a leadoff double and was sacrificed to third by Kevin Reese. After Sardinha rounded first he face planted on his way to second before going back to the bag and was laughed at by Torre and Mattingly; quite a sight to see. He was then thrown out stealing.
-D Backs aquisition Alberto Gonzalez is struggling, with his second error of the spring in this game and 0-2 at the plate. He maintains a .333 average for the spring, however.
-Bubba Crosby entered the game and is 0-2 but just made an excellent sliding catch in left field.
-Josh Phelps almost ended the game with a bullet double to left center but it went over the wall on a bounce to force the winning run to hold at third. He is now batting .556
-Along with Phelps, Thompson and Sardinha continue to really impress me. I don't remember this much excitement and talent in the minor leagues in a long time.
The game has just ended in a 1-1 tie. Sean Henn added a scoreless 10th. The Yankees had 11 hits and 2 errors in this one, I wouldn't expect a very big difference when the regular season comes.
